iTunes 4.9 and new iPods
iTunes 4.9 is out today, with support for Podcasting. I tried it out for a few minutes this morning and it looks really slick, but I haven't had a chance to explore it really. I subscribed to TWiT and it started downloading the latest episode, but it was slow and it was probably the mp3 version, which is in all ways inferior to the bookmarkable AAC version available (albeit only via BitTorrent).
This just in…
As I'm going to Apple's website to look up some of the features for this post, I see that Apple has also revamped the iPod line. The 20gb iPod has been given a color screen, the 30gb iPod has been dropped and the 60gb iPod has dropped in price to $399. The iPod photo name has also been dropped and the color screen iPods are now simply 'iPods with color screens'. A new firmware update gives iPods a Podcasts menu on the main screen. Sadly, this update won't work on my 3G iPod, so I'm stuck using a Smart Playlist to organize my Podcasts (hopefully the ones from this new Podcast menu will show up on my iPod regardless).
Seeing as how there is only a $100 price difference between the 20gb and 60gb model, I wonder what that'll do to the prices of the older 30gb and 40gb iPod photos. Hopefully by some strange turn of events, these older models will be below $300 and I'll pick up a color iPod sooner rather than later.
