To Philadelphia I Go

Tomorrow I will be leaving for Philadelphia in the afternoon/evening. The plan for the weekend is to drive up to Saratoga Springs to see DMB at SPAC with Mike and Dave. Live 8 is going to be in Philly on Saturday starting at noon, but unfortunately we won't be able to attend since it's a 5.5 hour drive to SPAC (and we have to pass by NYC to pick Dave up). I caught a clip of the crews setting up the stage on the news this morning, and just as I suspected, the stage will be on the steps of the art museum and the crowd will be on the Ben Franklin Parkway. I've read that they are expecting 1 million people to attend. Given a choice between the two, I'd rather see DMB at SPAC for 3 hours in a more intimate setting (20k people is intimate? hehe) than for an hour at Live 8 with a million people there. It would have been great to go for the experience, but it wouldn't have been worth it for the sole purpose of seeing DMB.

The office closes early tomorrow so I'm going to see if I can get on an earlier flight. I'm also going to have to look into changing the return flight to something later so I don't have to leave for the airport at noon on Monday. I also have to find sometime this weekend to move some things over from the frat house to our new place, but I may just come a few days earlier in the fall and move over then.

iTunes 4.9 and new iPods

iTunes 4.9 is out today, with support for Podcasting. I tried it out for a few minutes this morning and it looks really slick, but I haven't had a chance to explore it really. I subscribed to TWiT and it started downloading the latest episode, but it was slow and it was probably the mp3 version, which is in all ways inferior to the bookmarkable AAC version available (albeit only via BitTorrent).

This just in…

As I'm going to Apple's website to look up some of the features for this post, I see that Apple has also revamped the iPod line. The 20gb iPod has been given a color screen, the 30gb iPod has been dropped and the 60gb iPod has dropped in price to $399. The iPod photo name has also been dropped and the color screen iPods are now simply 'iPods with color screens'. A new firmware update gives iPods a Podcasts menu on the main screen. Sadly, this update won't work on my 3G iPod, so I'm stuck using a Smart Playlist to organize my Podcasts (hopefully the ones from this new Podcast menu will show up on my iPod regardless).

Seeing as how there is only a $100 price difference between the 20gb and 60gb model, I wonder what that'll do to the prices of the older 30gb and 40gb iPod photos. Hopefully by some strange turn of events, these older models will be below $300 and I'll pick up a color iPod sooner rather than later.

Minimus - Mini Merchant

I just picked this up off of del.icio.us. It's an online vendor that specializes in travel-sized groceries and domestics. The prices seem reasonable, and much better than what you'd pay at CVS or Walgreen's for travel-sized items. I'm not that frequent a traveler, but for those who are, this is a great resource.

Contrary to popular belief, my name is NOT sewn on all my clothes. There is a famous fashion designer with my name and this is one of his shirts, courtesy of my dad's phone.

EDIT: This was a test of posting via e-mail to Flickr. It includes a lot of garbage HTML so I don't think this is a very viable solution. Hopefully it was just a formatting problem from Mail.app. I'll try using my phone's e-mail app tomorrow at work with (crosses fingers) better results.

Polaroid-o-nizer

Now here's a cool little web applet. It'll take any image online and turn it into a Polaroid-style photo, complete with rotation and caption.

For example,
Greetings!

came from this.

Don't Panic!

If you think the moon is unusually large over the next few days — don't panic! You are not in Majora's Mask/Vector Prime, it's only an optical illusion. What you'll be experiencing is an illusion similar to Ponzo's Illusion (shown at the site linked above) and so is impossible to capture with a camera. Keep an eye out for it and make sure that eye isn't in a viewfinder. I'll of course try to get pictures of it, but if the engineers at NASA say it's impossible, it must be, right?

Moblogging

I added the $9.99/mo 5mb wireless internet plan for my phone on Cingular today. I haven't been able to get a GPRS connection here at work, but I'm hoping it's just a config problem since all the Blackberries around here seem to be working just fine.

So what does this mean? It means I'll be even more connected to the Internet. Eventually I hope to set up a moblog (mobile blog, get it?) and post pictures from anywhere straight from my phone. I'm not sure if there's a WordPress plugin for it or not, or how well TextAmerica integrates into this site, so that's something I have to look into tonight or tomorrow.

Link Dump mini

A couple of cool links I came across this past week. I've also started work, so I'll post my impressions about that soon…

iPod Commercial - A guy dresses up in all black and dances with an iPod at a Michigan Apple Store.

? - Another screen to real-life thing. This time it's the Mario [?] from the side-scrollers. They even have power-ups in them.
