Awe-inspiring

I just got done watching the newly released video of Steve Jobs' 1984 announcement of the original Macintosh. I started thinking about how amazing it must have been for the people watching this live 21 years ago to see a computer that was able to display graphics, allow text editing with different fonts, and talk to you. The video ended with what was the longest ovation to a Steve Jobs presentation I had ever seen.

This got me to thinking: When was the last time we were actually amazed by technological innovation? Sure Aqua's lickable interface was nice, but it's just a pretty interface. Quality 3D graphics in games are great, but the quality we have now evolved incrementally. Valve didn't hit us with Half-life 2 when we were used to Doom 2, there was plenty of evolution in between.
I wonder what the Next Big Thing™ is. It's tough to imagine the unimaginable.
